Micky Allan has exhibited since 1975, both in Australia and overseas, after initial training at the National Gallery of Victoria Painting School under John Brack

Micky has been awarded several artists residencies, including the Australia Council's studio at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and the Australian studio at the Michael Karolyi Foundation in France. Other awards include a grant for new work from the Australia Council in 2002 and the 2007 Rosalie Gascoigne award from CAPO (Capital Arts Patrons' Organisation)
Micky is represented in many public collections including The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney, The National Gallery of Victoria, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, as well as in various corporate collections including Baillieu-Myer Foundation, Allen Allen & Hemsley, Baker and McKenzie, Mallesons Stephen Jacques, Vitrex-Camden, and Philip Morris
